Standoff is by far the Wheelmen’s favorite map. Enemies that spawn outside make easy prey for our bulky beast. This map has provided more Black medals than any other. Perfections, Invincibles, and yes even Killionaires, come in waves for gunners. However this is the map that we most see driven incorrectly. Mistakes happen easily on this map and there are plenty of areas to make them. Against a well organized team this map is the most difficult to drive correctly.

Your team should be worried about grabbing the laser off of start. The warthog should support in the opening push in order to help secure the laser. This laser is the most danger to you as a driver. Support your team so that you can be successful. Overall the best way that your team can support you is to make CALLOUTS. Let everyone know where enemy power weapons are at all times.

There is a well set route around the enemy base that every driver likes to take. I would like to say to every driver, do not take it. Do not complete a full circle around the base ever. Change it up as you are driving. Do not be predictable. The second biggest danger to any hog team on this map is the areas enemies can hide with weapons that will harm a warthog. Your predictability is your worst enemy.

This list will be in order of most dangerous to least dangerous:

The laser spawns directly in the middle. You as a driver should help secure this by driving to the low dish and assisting by laying down cover fire. Once your team has the laser you should proceed to assist your team by locking down spawns and help fight pushes back.

This is possibly the second biggest danger on the map. This combined with any weapon on the map can be a danger to you. Invis and stickies, Invis and Brute Shot, even Invis and a shotgun can be deadly to your warthog. Make sure you know where the enemy invis is at all times.

Rockets spawn at the “Rocket Rock”. This is always the rock closes to the invisibility. Any good ground pounder will hide behind a rock in order to take you down. The best counter to this is to know where he is by listening for a call out and avoiding that area.

When driving around Standoff you should be cautious to avoid grenades that will be timed to blow you off a path. If you see one thrown in your way slow down to avoid it flipping you. Also be aware that the easiest way to die is to get stuck. If you see an enemy hiding, make sure to swing around them wide to make it harder to stick your vehicle. Also be aware of the places enemies like to camp and wait for warthogs. This includes both the elbow to the back of the base, the invis spawn, and the back door gulley.

The Brute shot spawns on the top of the base, watch out for it to cross over and flip you in a location that you don't expect.

The biggest time that this should be a threat is at the beginning of the match. Watch out for it to try and ambush you. Your team should have taken it down or at least slowed down the team. Other than that moment, it should be taken out with stickies by ground pounder during the match, or if slayer, stolen for use.

When mounted the turret can cause some real damage to your hog. Keep moving and get behind him because he turns slow. You should rip him to shreds from there.
